The drill rod is a key component of the raise-boring machine for power transmission, and its performance directly affects the drilling efficiency, equipment life and con-struction progress. The drill rod mainly performs the following functions:
1. Transmit power and torque from the machine’s rotary drive to the bit, enabling rockcutting and drilling.
2. Convey drilling medium. With a hollow structure, the drill rod conveys high-pres-sure flushing fluid (water, mud or foam) to cool the drill bit, discharge cuttings and sta-bilize the borehole wall.
3. Provide borehole guidance and support. Over long sections, the rigidity of the drillrod assists in maintaining the intended borehole trajectory. It supports the bit and stabi-lizer, reducing vibration and deviation during the drilling process.
4. Connection and extension: The drill rods are connected one by one through threadsto extend the drill string to meet various depth requirements, adapting to the construe-tion of vertical or inclined raises.
